Bush's much-ballyhooed "surge" of troops was revealed today in a news conference. What it amounts to is the deployment of an additional brigade (3,750 troops), and an extension of service for 11,250. By this mathematical trick, Bush can claim a "deployment" of 15,000 troops.
The strain on the forces already in Iraq is monumental. Many veterans have already served two or three tours. And as in Vietnam, the soldiers are counting the days until they can go home. The news that their commander-in-chief has extended their tour of duty will not sit well with them. I would not be surprised if a mutiny occurred.

Re: Truth about the "surge"
Mon, January 8, 2007 - 4:23 PMI would not say mutiny, it's gonna suck for them but their not weak. We were extended several times after the initial invasion and while it does suck we all kept doing our job. You don't have time to complain, you have to stay focused and ready. You and your friends lives are at stake. You always have to have the game face on. Thats what keeps you alive.
